Offered is an original 1881 Kabul to Kandahar Star. 48 mm wide dark bronze five-pointed star with faceted rayed arms, a ball between each arm, a pierced crown above with loop to the reverse for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion bearing the ‘VRI’ cipher of Queen Victoria within a ring inscribed ‘KABUL TO KANDAHAR’ and dated ‘1880’ at the base, laurel sprigs to either side; the reverse plain, with engraved name: * SEPOY JOWUND SING * 24TH REGT N.I.; on court mounted ribbon. The Medal was instituted on 19 March 1881 to be awarded to those who took part in the three hundred and ten mile march under General Frederick Roberts (later Field Marshal the Earl Roberts) from Kabul to relieve Kandahar between 3 August and 31 August 1880.
