Percy Harold Thompson was born in Camberwell, London in 1880. He is shown as 'unemployed' when he enlisted into the 13th Hussars on 27/9/1898 in London (service number 4131).
Apart from his home service, Percy served in South Africa 10/8/1900 – 21/10/ 1902.
It is possible that he was initially serving with 'D' Coy, as the 13th Hussars were one of the first cavalry regiments to be sent out to the Anglo-Boer War. The regiment was separated so that they embarked at Liverpool on two ships, the Templemore and the Montfort, on the 10th and 11th Nov 1899. They had a strength of 26 officers, one WO and 568 other ranks. 'D' squadron remained behind in Aldershot as a reserve.
On returning to England, he bought himself out of the Army on 19/2/1903 (paying the sum of 18 pounds to do so) and died in Camberwell in 1923.
He is further entitled to the Kings South Africa Medal with clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902.
