Description

Offered is a British War and Victory Medals (1914 – 18), impressed named GS-68748 PTE. A.C. LOOKER. R.FUS. Memorial Plaque named ALFRED CHARLES LOOKER.; Original medal registered letter with accompanying document, card box for medals, dog tags (2) and photograph. Comes with copy M.I.C. medal roll, soldiers’ effects extract, photograph of grave.

Alfred Charles Looker was born in 1898/9 in Croydon, Surrey. Unfortunately, his service records did not survive the ‘Blitz’ but it is known that he originally served with the 21st Training Reserve Battalion at Shoreham until of age to go to France.

He was posted to the 17th Battalion, London Regiment (140th Brigade, 47th Division) with the new service #GS-68748. He landed in France on 8/10/1917.

The German Spring Offensive hit the Division on the night of the 20/21st, when they were holding the line southwest of Cambrai. They took heavy casualties and were pushed back. At some stage during the attack, he was wounded and evacuated to hospital at Estaples where he died of his wounds on the 28/3/1918.
