1856 ENFIELD SWORD BAYONET& SCABBARD YATAGHAN TYPE BRITISH ARMY
$335.00
SOLD
This is a genuine 1856 Pattern Enfield sword/bayonet & scabbard. Un-marked as far as I can see, the bayonet featured rivetted leather chequered grips, with the swivel locking lug (working). Metal guard and muzzle ring. Metal shows light pitting overall in spots, commensurate with age. Single edged 58cm long 'Yataghan' curved blade in excellent condition. The leather and metal scabbard is in good, sound condition, with some creasing and use wear. Slides in and out of of scabbard with no issues, with that tell tale 'click'.
The bayonet is in overall good to very good condition
Measures 73 cm overall. Many of these 1856 patterned bayonets were later issued with shortened blades, this being the full length type makes this a very collectable type. Many were issued to colonial governments, such as Australia. I bought this through my Perth based shop, so this may be an Australian Colonial used piece, but have no further evidence to back this claim any further.
