1858 ARTILLERY SWORD BAYONET & SCABBARD YATAGHAN TYPE BRITISH ARMY

SOLD This is a genuine 1858 Pattern Artillery short sword/bayonet & scabbard. Maker marked A & A. S. to forte, the bayonet features rivetted leather chequered grips, with the swivel locking lug (working). Metal guard and muzzle ring. The pommel is stamped 173. Metal shows light wear & patina, commensurate with age. Single edged 58cm long ‘Yataghan’ curved blade in excellent condition. The leather and metal scabbard is in good, sound condition, with some creasing and use wear. Slides in and out of of scabbard with no issues, with that tell tale ‘click’. The bayonet is in overall good to very good condition. Measures 73 cm overall. Many of these 1858 patterned bayonets were later issued with shortened blades, this being the full length type makes this a very collectable type. Many were issued to colonial governments, such as Australia.
