Offered is an original 1896 pattern 1907 dated British Indian Mountain Artillery sword by Robert Mole of Birmingham, as used as part of the British Indian expeditionary forces during WW1, including the Gallipoli campaign.    Features solid brass hilt & guard stamped R.P 5.15, blue browned steel ribbed grip. Superbly forged 76cm long, wide cutlass curved blade is in fine condition with a plain, highly buffed, bright metal surface, MOLE maker & ‘I” broad arrow stamp to back edge with lightly sharpened & nicked front edge, ISD acceptance stamp to ricasso. Offered is an original 1896 pattern 1907 dated British Indian Mountain Artillery sword by Robert Mole of Birmingham, as used as part of the British Indian expeditionary forces during WW1, including the Gallipoli campaign. 

 

Features solid brass hilt & guard stamped R.P 5.15, blue browned steel ribbed grip. Superbly forged 76cm long, wide cutlass curved blade is in fine condition with a plain, highly buffed, bright metal surface, MOLE maker & 'I" broad arrow stamp to back edge with lightly sharpened & nicked front edge, ISD acceptance stamp to ricasso. Original brass and leather scabbard features a good fit to the blade, with about 3mm length shrinkage, brass throat & drag stamped Ca.09. The brown leather shows only light wear and is superb condition with excellent stitched seam.

 

A very fine heavy duty mountain cutlass showing quality craftsmanship, this one is a very desirable display piece with a very meaty cutlass blade and made for an Indian artilleryman who would soon be part of the WW1 Indian Expeditionary Forces to take to war in the Sinai, Palestine, Suez, and / or Gallipoli Campaigns. Sword measures 88cm, 90cm in scabbard.
