CLDSTM GDS:; Kings South Africa Medal 1902, with 2 clasps SOUTH AFRICA 1901, SOUTH AFRICA 1902, impressed named 7689 PTE G. WILLCOX. COLDSTREAM GUARDS. Heavily toned, but good details overall. Comes with copies Service papers and medal rolls.
George Willcox was born in 1870 in North Tawton, Devon, a thatcher by trade, he enlisted into the Coldstream Guards on 26/4/1889, at the time he was serving with the 4th Volunteer Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. He transferred to the Army reserve 22/4/1896 but was recalled to the colours 7/10/1899 with the 3rd Battalion C.G. for the Boer War, but was posted to the 1st Battalion 3/1/1900 with whom he served in South Africa with from 3/1/1900 – 2/4/1902. Returning home 3/4/1902 to the 3rd Battalion C.G. for discharge time expired 21/4/1902.
Post-war he was employed as a market porter and died in Deepway, Exminster 10/6/1955.
