Boer War Queen’s & King’s South Africa Medals to Sergeant Christopher Maxfield, who served with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment during the Boer War. Queen’s South Africa Medal with campaign bars ORANGE FREE STATE & CAPE COLONY correctly impressed named 4216 CPL C. MAXFIELD, 1ST RL. SUSSEX REGT King’s South Africa Medal with date bars SOUTH AFRICA 1901. SOUTH AFRICA 1902, impressed named to: 4216 SERJT: C. MAXFIELD, RL. SUSSEX REGT Christopher Maxfield was born in Marylebone, London, in 1873 and attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment on 9 January 1893 in Chichester. Promoted Corporal on 14 December 1897, he served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War, and was promoted Sergeant on 24 December 1900. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 11 February 1903, and was discharged on 8 January 1905, after 12 years’ service. Medals come with a copy of his service record & medal entitlement sheets, confirming all campaign bars.
