30th Battalion Wounded August 1918 WW1 Australian medal 3781 Pte J.B. Creagh

British War Medal – named 3781 A- CPL J.B. CREAGH. 30 BN. A.I.F. which comes with extracts from service record and war diary. John Bede Creagh was born on 24/2/1874 in Yass, New South Wales, Australia, a teacher by occupation he enlisted with the 9th Reinforcements, 30th Battalion on 15/2/1916. After training he departed Australia in August 1916 bound for England, landing in October. After further training he deployed to France on 18/12/1916 joining the 30th just before Christmas. He was wounded in action on 27/8/1918 when the battalion attacked Foucaucourt. Despite the heavy German M.G. and artillery fire the battalion took the position, loosing 13 killed and 56 wounded, Creagh being wounded in the buttock. He was subsequently evacuated to England and returned to Australia for discharge on 12/2/1919 dying in 1949 in Victoria.
