Court mounted for display. Comes with copies of Army and Navy service papers. John Gordon Smith was born on 3/7/1921 in Adelaide, South Australia. A labourer by trade he enlisted into the Australian Army at Torrens Drill Hall, Adelaide 10/2/1942 (service number S50595). He applied for a transfer to the R.A.A.F 12/5/1942 which was unsuccessful. 20/6/42 Posted to the 4th Garrison Battalion. 21/9/42 Discharged to the RoyalAustralian Navy. 22/9/42 Enlisted into the R.A.N. with service numberP.A.3164. Posted to the following H.M.A.S ships and bases: Cerberus, Lonsdale(training base), Magnetic (shore based naval depot in Townsville) 18/5/43 – 30/6/43, Lonsdale, Moreton (Shore base), Magnetic, Swan 5/4/44 – July 1945, Torrens and discharge 29/3/1946. He died 31/7/2005 in Mitcham City, South Australia.
