Offered is a Crimean War Medal to Private C. Cross, 97th Regiment of Foot, who died on active service during the famous Siege of Sevastopol.

Crimea Medal (1854-56), with clasp SEBASTOPOL, impressed named C.C. CROSS. 97TH REGT. Comes with copy medal roll.

The 97th Foot were stationed in England from May 1853. The regiment formed part of an expeditionary force that left Southampton in May 1854, however they were diverted to Greece, where they formed part of an Anglo-French occupation force suppressing the Uprising in Epirus. In November 1854 they were selected as one of six infantry battalions to form reinforcements for the forces in the Crimea. The 97th Foot landed at Balaklava on 20/11/1854 and took part in the Siege of Sevastopol (11/9/1854 to 9/9/1855). Cross died on 11/12/1854.
