A family A.I.F. Gallipoli 11th Bn casualty group & British officer’s WW1 medals to the Wood brothers. Includes 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory Medal impressed named to 2049 PTE. L. WOOD 11th BN. AIF, Death Plaque named to LEOFRIC WOOD. Medals and plaque housed in a framed display, with photo of Leofric in camp, with annotated hand ink written details to bottom of photo, the back of the frame shows his King’s condolence letter. 1914 Star with Mons clasp & rosette, impressed named to 29242 CPL. D. WOOD. R.E., British War & Victory Medal impressed named to LIEUT. D. WOOD. This group comes with his original University of Oxford education certificate dated 1905 and his commissioning certificate as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal Engineers, dated 1st April 1916. Leofric Wood was born in Somerset, England and enlisted aged 21 in Perth on the 30th January 1915. He was drafted into the 5th Reinforcements of the 11th Battalion. Served Gallipoli and died of dysentery during the Gallipoli Campaign on the 2nd August 1915. He was buried at sea and is commemorated at the Lone Pine Memorial (panel 34), Gallipoli Turkey. Comes with a framed description and photo of his life and the family connection to his brothers.
