Offered is a 1914-15 Star trio to Engine Room Artificer Alfred Read, who served on Destroyers, a Dreadnought, Aircraft Carrier and the 1st Sea Lords Steam yacht during his long career. 1914-15 Star impressed named M.7704. A.H.READ. E.R.A.4.R.N. British War and Victory Medal impressed named M.7704. A.H.READ. E.R.A.3. R.N. Comes with copies service records & medal roll. Medals somewhat polished, worn from long active service. Alfred Henry Read was born in Bombay, India on the 18/8/1892. He enlisted with the Royal Navy on the 4/6/1914 as an Engine Room Artificer. He was still serving in 1936, so very possible he saw WW2. Served: H.M.S Victory II. H.M.S Vernon (On the outbreak of the First World War Vernon was used to carry out torpedo trials and to train new recruits for the Navy. Extensive research and development was also carried to develop new anti-submarine devices, mines and ships’ electrics.) 22/8/1914 – 22/6/1916. H.M.S Acasta (Acasta-class destroyer) 15/6/1916 – 30/6/1916 badly damaged at Jutland in May she practically had to be rebuilt. After extensive repairs, completed by 2 August, & went back into service. Alfred Henry Read was born in Bombay, India on the 18/8/1892. He enlisted with the Royal Navy on the 4/6/1914 as an Engine Room Artificer. He was still serving in 1936, so very possible he saw WW2.

In July 1918, she flew off seven Sopwith Camels which participated in the Tondern raid, attacking the Zeppelin sheds. Served 30 days detention for theft but his character was still recorded as satisfactory! H.M.S Carlisle (C-class Light Cruiser) 1/3/1919 – 31/12/1920. H.M.S Enchantress (Steam yacht which was at the disposal of the Commissioners of the Admiralty, especially of the First Lord). 27/10/1921 – 15/11/1921. H.M.S Dolphin (Submarine depot ship) 22/11/1921 – 2/5/1922. H.M.S Fisgard (Artificers' training ship) 10/5/1922 – 14/9/1922. H.M.S Iron Duke (Dreadnought)15/9/1922 – 31/3/1926. H.M.S Fisgard 15/9/1926 – 18/1/1927. H.M.S Argus (Aircraft carrier) 19/1/1927 – 1/9/1928 His records stop at this stage as they were transferred to a card system 1/1/1929. Still serving 30/6/1936 as a pensioner with new number P/MX 52965.
