For sale is a Queens South Africa Medal with 3 clasps CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE, JOHANNESBURG, named 8883 SERJ. A. SIM. LOVAT’S SCOUTS. It comes with copies of service record, medal rolls and newspaper articles.

He is missing the Clasps Diamond Hill, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902.

Sergeant Alexander Sim was born in Boharn, Apex, Elgin, in 1875. He was employed by the Highland Railways at Inverness as a clerk in in the Superintendent Lines Office. He was serving with the 1st Volunteer Battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders when he enlisted into the Black Watch for the “Special Highlanders Scouting Corps" for the Boer War on 3/2/1900.

He deployed to South Africa with the Lovat’s Scouts on 11/3/1900. He was severely wounded at Diamond Hill on the 11/6/1900. His records are not clear as to where he discharged, possibly in country on 5/11/1900.

Newspaper articles report that he returned to Scotland and gave a talk about his experience in the war with one reporting that he was returning to South Africa to take up a position with the railways.

It would appear that he further served in South Africa as the medal roll records him being entitled to the clasps South Africa 1901 and 1902.
