John James Perry, was born 18/12/1880 at Kilmainham Wood, Mead. He enlisted on his 18th birthday 18/12/1898 into the Royal Navy. He served on the following H.M ship and shore establishments: Impregnable; Lion; Boscawen; Alexandra; Raleigh; Trafalgar; Hannibal; Excellent; Duke of Wellington; Forward. To the Fleet Reserve 28/1/1911

WW1 service: Halcyon (minesweeper) Aug 1914 -4/9/1914; Cyclops (submarine repair and depot ship) 5/9/14 – 31/12/14; Lysander 1/1/1915 – 21/4/1915 (destroyer, part of the First Division of the Third Flotilla during the Battle of Dogger Bank); Egmont (was depot ship/parent ship/accounting base at Malta) for the hired trawler Destinn, Admiralty No 1587. Built 1914, Armament: 1-6pdr. In service 5.15 - 1919 as minesweeper. Served 14/12/1915 – 31/12/1918. HMS Victory 1/1/19 – 31/3/1919 and demobilized.
