Boer War (1899-1902) 1897 Pattern British or Australian Army Officer's presentation sword, as worn by an Infantry Officer.

The sword features a wire bound fish skin grip, mounted onto an all chequered back strap and pierced bowl guard, featuring the royal cypher of Queen Victoria. The nickel finish overall is excellent to outer bowl, with the usual plating wear to inner bowl from use.

The blade has battle & laurel leaf etchings running 1/2 down the length of both sides of the 84 cm straight blade. Excellent etched royal arms and motto's running along both sides of the blade, including the crowned royal cypher. This would have to rate as one of the best preserved QV era etching's I have encountered to a period sword. The maker mark shows the sword maker of A.G. Parker of Birmingham, a rarely seen maker. The nickel service scabbard is in near pristine condition. Generally, an immaculately well cared for sword, which would be a great addition to your collection. Overall length: 98 cm.
