However, he is recorded as a ‘Conductor’ with the Civilian Personnel Remount Dep roll. The rank of Conductor was the most senior warrant officer appointment.

He further served as a Lieutenant with the South African Mounted Irregular Forces 27/4/1901- 30/12/1901.
