T. MARSH. RIFLE BRIGADE.; 1914 – 15 Star, impressed named B-924 P
TE
S. MARSH. RIF. BRIG:; British War and Victory Medals 1914 – 18, impressed named B-924 PTE. T. MARSH. RIF. BRIG. Court Mounted for display. Comes with original 3 receipts for his WW1 service medals and receipt from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for the inscription, colour photograph of his grave. Copies of service record WW1, medal rolls, M.I.C. and extracts War Diary’s August 1915.
Note! Pte Marsh’s correct service number for the QSA, 1

Battalion R.B is
1875
as per his service papers and medal roll. To further add insult to injury his 1914 – 15 Star is incorrectly named as Pte
S
Marsh, when it should read Pte T. Marsh.
Thomas Edward Marsh
was born June 1872 in Hoxton London. He was working as a packer in a warehouse when he enlisted into the Rifle Brigade on the 24/11/1891, at the time he was serving with the 1st London Engineer Volunteers. He was posted to the 1
st
Battalion R.B 26/11/1892, and his foreign service consisted of: India 26/11/1892 – 29/11/94. Hong Kong 30/11/94 – 22/11/96. Singapore 23/11/06 – 12/2/98. Transferred to the Reserve 24/11/98.
Recalled for the Boer War with the 1
st
Battalion R.B 9/10/99 served South Africa 28/10/99 – 17/9/1900. The 1
st
Battalion R.B saw very heavy fighting during the war.
Home 18/9/1900, detached duty and posted to the 4
th
Battalion R.B 23/11/1901, 15
th
Battalion 16/12/01 discharging time expired 23/11/1903. Between the wars he was residing in South Tottenham, London.
WW1 Private Marsh rejoined with the 9
th
Battalion Rifle Brigade (formed at Winchester on 21 August 1914 as part of K1) and landed in France with the Battalion 20/5/1915. The 9
th
Battalion were in action holding the Ypres salient when Pte Marsh was wounded. He was evacuated to the C.C.S. near Lijssenthoek where he died of his wounds 5/8/1915. He is buried in the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery nearby.
