Offered is an Afghanistan Medal 1878 -1880, no clasp, period renamed: 5042. Batt^y Q^RM^R SEG^T T.R.BUTLER. “A” BATT^Y 4^TH B^DE R.A. Swing mounted as worn, comes with copy medal roll.

The medal was awarded without a clasp to those who saw service in Afghanistan between 22 November 1878 – 26 May 1879, or 3 September 1879 – 20 September 1880, but did not take part in these major actions. Battery Quarter Master Sergeant Butler was issued his medal in 1883.
