Lt Colonel Frederick Richard Dickinson, was born in Agra, India, on the 4th June 1898, his father was working for the Revenue Department in India at the time. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on the 12/9/1917 and appointed to the 81st Pioneers on the 22/12/1917 (who were in Mesopotamia at the time) before being transferred to the 20th Horse March 1918, the 155th Pioneers in November 1918 (who were in Mesopotamia) the 61st Pioneers in June 1919 & the 12th Pioneers in August 1920.
The 12th Pioneers deployed to Iraq with the 6th Indian Division landing in Basra 17/8/1919, it commenced to build block houses from Kut-el-Amara to Baghdad. At the completion it moved to Baquba then to Baghdad in February 1921. He transferred to the 1st Sappers and Miners (1st King George's Own Sappers and Miners) in March 1921, to the 10th Pioneers June 1923 & the 2-1st Pioneers (The 64th Pioneers was raised in 1914, re designated the 2/1st Madras Pioneers in 1922, and was disbanded in 1932) as a Company Officer where he was awarded the India GSM with clasp WAZIRISTAN 1921-24, also served with the 2nd Pioneers then as the Adjutant then to the 3-7th Rajput Regiment. He was transferred to the Supplementary Unemployed List 1/11/1935. Promoted to Major 1/8/1938, commissioned with the R.A.F. Reserve 21/9/1938 but served with the 7th Rajputโs before reverting to the unemployed list with the honorary rank of Lt. Colonel 17/11/42. He retired on the 4/6/1948 and died 10/5/1957 in Croydon, England. His son Richard John Frederick Dickinson served in the R.A.F. finishing up as a Group Captain.
