Captain William Berridge Pain?was born on the 27/3/1911 in Sunderland, the son of William Pain, a Head Teacher. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Signals on 12th November 1929, being advanced Lieutenant in November 1932 and Captain in January 1943. During the Second World War he earned a 'mention' (London Gazette 8 November 1945, refers), while his Efficiency Decoration followed on 21/12/1950. Retired on 14 March 1962 on reaching the age limit. Pain died at Basford in October 1981.
