Description

***SOLD***

British Household Cavalry (Life Guards) Cuirass – Prototype for Winston Churchill’s Funeral. A very usual variant of a Life Guards (Queen’s Crown) other ranks cuirass, which was blackened, as a prototype for the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill in 1964. At the time it was proposed that this was part of a uniform that would be worn by the guard who would stand over Sir Winston Churchill’s casket, as he was laying in state. It was later thought that this was an honour that would be more appropriate for a Head of State and was not implemented by the government of the day.
