Offered is an original QE II era Royal Air Force Long Service & Good Conduct Medal to Senior Technician McLoughlin, a not often seen rank. 36mm wide circular cupro-nickel medal on claw and scroll suspension; the face with the laurel-crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, circumscribed ‘+ ELIZABETH • II • DEI • GRATIA • REGINA • F: D:’ (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen, Defender of the Faith); the reverse with the insignia of the Royal Air Force, being an eagle with outstretched wings, a Tudor crown above, circumscribed ‘FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT’; correct small engraved details to rim 1116200 SNR. TECH. J. R. M. McLOUGHLIN. R.A.F. The medal was instituted on 1 July 1919 and awarded for 18 years’ exemplary service (reduced to 15 years in 1977).
