Crimea War medal Gunner Barry 5th Battalion Royal Artillery Sevastopol pre WW1
For sale is a Crimea Medal with clasp SEBASTOPOL named GR and DR G. BARRY. 5TH BN RL ART. It comes with copies of service record extracts, pension record and medal roll. Gunner George Barry was born in Castle Cary, Summerset in 1835, A farm labourer by trade he enlisted into the Royal Artillery (service# 27918) on 19/10/1853. He served in the Crimea with the 5th Battalion Royal Artillery landing in March 1855 serving until February 1856 qualifying for the Crimea Medal with clasp Sebastopol and the Turkish Crimea Medal. In his 21 years with the colours, he served 11 months in the Crimea, 6 years in Gibraltar, 1 year in Halifax, Canada and 5 months in Bermuda. He discharged to a pension in November 1874.
