Description

Offered is an Afghanistan (1878 – 80), with clasp ALI MUSJID, period engraved 2586. P^TE G. COLLINS. 4^TH B^N RIFLE B^DE Comes with a copy medal roll.

Private George Collins was never issued his medal as he died shortly after the campaign. The medal roll for medals returned 1880 lists his medals as ‘unclaimed’. However, the memorial for ‘Officers and Men of the 4^th Battalion Rifle Brigade who died on the campaign in Afghanistan and on the return march to India between 20 Nov 1878 and 13 July 1879, erected by their comrades 1880’ does not list him. It is probable that he died shortly after the battalion returned to India post July 1879.
