Offered is a Memorial Plaque named VICTOR ERNEST WARNE, comes with copies of service records, photograph, newspaper article and Commonwealth War Graves certificate.

Victor Ernest Warne was born on the 11/2/1897 at Bridgewater, Victoria. A postal worker by trade he had previously served 3 years with the school cadets and a year with the Citizens Forces. As he was under 21 years, he had to obtain his parents’ permission to enlist which he did on the 27/6/1916, being assigned to the 4^th reinforcements, 38^th Battalion A.I.F. He departed Australia 20/10/1919 landing in England 29/12/1916. He proceeded to France 29/3/1917 and joined the Battalion 2/4/1917.

15/2/1918 he was attached to the 3^rd Division Signal Coy. (10th Field Coy Engineers) no doubt due to his postal work experience. After returning from a short leave in England he was admitted on the 29/10/1918 to the 3^rd Australian General Hospital where he died just 2 days before the end of the war on the 9/11/1918 of Bronchial Pneumonia (Spanish flue influenza pandemic 1918) ‘due to exposure’. He is buried in the Abbeville Communal Cemetery.

He is also entitled to the British War and Victory Medals.
