He most likely served with the 6th or 7th Battalion (The Green Howards) as these were the only 2 battalions of the regiment to have served in North Africa & possibly wounded/repatriated as he has no Italy or France & Germany Star, which you would expect to be included if he served the duration with either unit.

The 6th and 7th Battalions were part of the 69th Infantry Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division. In the North African campaign, the brigade fought at the battles of Gazala, El Alamein & Tunisia. It went on to Operation Husky (Sicily Invasion) and landed at Gold Beach on the 6th June 1944.
