Description

For sale is a set of medals comprising: 1914 – 15 Star, British War and Victory Medals (1914 – 18), all impressed named 19817 PTE A.V. TILLEY. G. GDS. Swing mounted as worn they come with copies of service record extracts, MIC, and medal rolls. Note the unusual slot in pin mount, the first I’ve ever seen like these.

Albert Victor Tilley was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England about 1889. A grocer by trade he enlisted into the Grenadier Guards on 8/10/1914.

After initial training he was posted to the 4th Battalion of the Grenadier Guards serving in France from 5/10/1915 – 7/8/1916.

He was proceeding up the line on the 4th July 1916 when he slipped on the trench boards badly spraining his back. He was subsequently evacuated to England for the remainder of the war being demobilised in February 1919 from the Guards Depot as an acting Sergeant.
