For sale is a General Service Medal (E.II.R.) with clasp MALAY PENINSULA, named J.R. PLATTEN. R59816, which comes with copies of service records.

Chief Petty Officer John Robert Platten was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1945. He enlisted into the Royal Australian Navy straight from school on 8/3/1963.

Over the next 20 years he served on a variety of HMAS ship and shore bases and qualified for his medal and clasp whilst serving on HMAS Melbourne (aircraft carrier) 1964 -65. He also did a trip to Vietnam May – June 1965. He did a second trip on HMAS Hobart (guided missile destroyer) March – October 1970.

He discharged after 20 years’ service on 2/3/1983.
