Description

India General Service Medal, with two clasps, BURMA 1889 – 92, BURMA 1887 – 89 to Sergeant A. Ralph 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment who served in India and Burma for 11 years.

Sergeant Albert Ralph was born in Andover Southampton about 1856. A labourer by trade he was serving with the 3rd Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment (Militia) when he enlisted into the 1st Battalion on 28/12/1885. He served 11 of his 12 years overseas, soldiering in India 7/9/1886 – 2/11/1888. Burma 3/11/1888 – 16/2/1891, India 7/2/1891 – 19/11/1897 to discharge on 22/11/1897. He was promoted to Corporal in 1893 and Sergeant in 1896. It would not appear that he served in the Boer War.
