For sale is a Victory Medal (1914 – 18) impressed named 933 S.S.M. O. GOODING. K EDW H. which comes with copy of MIC, medal rolls and Officer Cadet return.

Squadron Sergeant Major Oscar Francis Gooding was born in January 1889 in Dover, Kent, England.

He was probably a pre war soldier as King Edward Horse was a unit of the Special Reserve.

It was mobilised on declaration of war and temporarily attached to 4th Cavalry Brigade. In April 1915, the regiment was split up and C” Squadron, together with HQ, moved to France on 22/4/1915 and joined 47th (London) Division, but moved to join IV Corps in June 1916.

As Gooding landed in France on 22/4/1915 it is highly probable that he was with ‘C’ Squadron.

By the wars end he was an Acting Warrant Officer class 2. One medal roll records his discharge date being 1/1/1918, another 3/8/1919. His name appears on a Officer Cadet document dated September 1918.

Post war he emigrated to Australia in 1931 and died in Perth Western Australia in 1974.
