Offered is a Meritorious Service Medal to Sergeant Major James King, who served 26 years with the colours, retiring in 1905, yet receiving this award some 27 years later, this being the only award of the M.S.M. to the Worcestershire Regiment, in which he previously served, in 1932

Meritorious Service Medal (George V – coinage head) impressed named S. MJR. J.B. KING. WORC. R. Comes with extensive research including Service papers, medal roll, census and death certificate. Crisp and near mint condition. Comes with a professional research file, including two handwritten A4 pages with full biography, something I’ve seldom seen in terms of research on a single medal before.

Sargent Major James Bryan King was born on 17/4/1861 at Colwall, Herefordshire. An iron moulder by trade he enlisted on the 15/4/1879 with the 22nd Brigade at Worcester. 12/6/1879 posted to the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. Promoted to Lance Corporal 22/111881, Corporal 22/4/1882, Sargent 6/12/1883.  Attended School of Military Engineering 3/8/1885 – 6/11/85. 31/1/1886 posted to the Militia (Regular Army Staff). 24/8/1886 promoted to Colour Sergeant. Discharged 31/3/1905 & died in Hendon 5/10/1935.

Meritorious Service Medal with 10-pound annuity 4/10/1932. Only 550 were awarded for this type of coinage head, this was the only award for the Worcestershire Regiment for 1932.
