Description

Offered is an 1887 British Heavy Cavalry Officer’s undress sword and scabbard by Hobson & Sons, London, as worn by an officer who served with the Middlesex Yeomanry in the early part of the 20th century

The King Edward VII, late Boer War era sword features a nickel plated steel decorated guard with shagreen and wire twist fish skin grip. The nickel plated steel chequered pommel and back strap show the quality and expense in the manufacture of this fine sword. The straight 92cm finely etched blade features crowned King Edward VII cypher and decoarted sword panels, along with the standard trophies of arms, lions and coats of arms, all surrounded by floral scroll work. Star proof gold slug and Hobson & Sons, London makers address to the ricasso, along with the original owners initials WLM engraved in a panel below the proof star, along with the Middlesex Yeomanry below tudor crown. Excellent original finish to the blade with excellent hand engraved details.

Scabbard complete with majority of the original nickel finish to twin suspension rings and body, light age wear points to lower portion and drag, commensurate with its +110 year age, with the blade fitting perfectly into the scabbard. Sword in scabbard it measures 110cm, a large sword of exceptional quality.

A fine sword, one which impress both the sword collector and most likely also your missus!
