Offered is a Naval General Service Medal (1915 NGSM) George VI (1st type) 'INDIAE IMP' (1936–49) with clasp MINESWEEPING 1945–51. Impressed named JX 641172 R H DAVEY AB RN; box of issue marked INITIAL ISSUE 2936/90 and Davey’s service details.

After the war the task of clearing the oceans of mines and other shipping hazards fell onto the Royal Navy. The clasp Mine sweeping 1945-51 was awarded for those actions. Some 4,750 were awarded for 6 months mine sweeping service in specified areas across the world. As Davey’s medal is the King George VI 1st type which was awarded 36-49 this would cover the period 1945-49. It is highly probable that Davey saw service during WW2.

A nice original issue box and medal that has clearly never been worn. It would appear that the medal was issued in 1990.
