Description

Offered is a 1910 dated Sanderson made First World War 1907 pattern, hooked quillon bayonet with scabbard as issued within the 2nd Military District (N.S.W.). 

Bayonet & scabbard features steel fittings, with stamped pommel (N.S.W. 5596) & working release button, with test mark, with very good wooden grips and metal guard, retaining the original hook. The 43 cm long steel blade shows the ‘blood groove’ to the centre of each side of the blade and stamped Sanderson maker, stamped 1 ‘ 10 (dated January 1910). The blade being factory sharpened only, with some file marks to upper ricasso. Standard leather & metal scabbard, with WW1 era mouth piece, stamped (2nd M.D 0/9456) & chape, missing one of the fixing staples, with service used leather body, stamped H.G.R. 10, with D broad arrow stamp for Australian issue. Overall length: 58cm long. 

A good example of a rare hooked quillon British made bayonet, used with the classic Short Magazine Lee–Enfield No. 1 Mk. III service rifle and predominantly issued to Australia troops in the first year of the First World War, commonly identified with those serving during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915.
