Additional information
Description
Offered is a replica Australian/British type 2, Order of the British Empire (Officer’s military award – O.B.E.) with ribbon. This is a well made die cast replica of an original issue medal. Originally awarded to civilians in the British Commonwealth, including Australia, as an order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the military & exceptional service within a military unit. This replica medal measures 48mm wide and comes with the correct Toye & Kenning U.K. made 15cm long ribbon. Perfect for displaying or adding to your replica medal bar.
Design
The badge is in the form of a gilt cross patonce (having the arms growing broader and floriated toward the end), bearing the side profiles of King George V and Queen Mary in ornamental robes and crowns; the reverse bears George V’s Royal and Imperial Cypher. Both are within a ring bearing the motto of the Order.
Ribbon
The ribbon width is 38 mm and consists of two toned silver striped edges, with a further stripe to centre of and central pink bar.
Eligibility
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Military) is a British order of chivalry, rewarding members of the Defence Force for contributions to military service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V, and comprises five classes, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order.
Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Nominations continue today from Commonwealth countries that participate in recommending British (Imperial) honours. Most Commonwealth countries ceased recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire when they created their own honours, including Australia which adopted their own Order of Australia in 1975.
