Offered is an original Order of Poland Restored, dating from the early 1950's.
Toned 45mm wide gilt-edged white enamel Maltese cross with gilt ball-tipped finials, with loop and decorated ring for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central red enamel medallion bearing the gilt-outlined white enamel Polish eagle within a blue enamel band inscribed in gilt letters ‘POLONIA RESTITUTA’ (Latin = Poland Restored); the reverse all gilt but for a red enamel circular central medallion with the date ‘1944’ in gilt numerals; on original age-faded ribbon.
The Order was instituted by Act of Parliament of 4 February 1921 to be awarded to both Polish and non-Polish citizens for acts of merit benefiting the Poland in a wide range of fields. This example (with uncrowned eagle) is from the period 1952 to 1990. A very good early issue example.
