Offered is an original Canadian issue 1977 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal.

32mm wide circular silver medal with ornate scroll, laterally-pierced ball and ribbon ring suspension; the face with the head of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Imperial State Crown and facing right, circumscribed ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FID. DEF. (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen, Defender of the Faith); the reverse shows a large stylized maple leaf with CANADA around the top rim and 1952 EIIR 1977 in small lettering around the bottom of the rim. The EIIR has a small crown on top. In very small letters above and between the EIIR and 1977 is the word HUNT in honour of the designer of the medal Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Un-named as issued on original ribbon.

The medal was instituted on 5 February 1977 to mark the 25th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on the death of her father, King George VI, in 1952. The medal was awarded to British and Commonwealth citizens for ‘community contribution’. Only 30,000 medals were produced and original examples, such as this, are very hard to find.
