POST WW2 ERA SOVIET UNION RUSSIA ORDER OF LABOR GLORY 3RD CLASS MEDAL #56705

40mm wide silver insignia of irregular circular shape with eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face with a cog-wheel bearing a radiant view of a coal mine, dam, chemical works and construction cranes, a hammer and sickle imposed, circumscribed in gilt letters ‘ТРУДОВАЯ СЛАВА’ (Labour Glory), five graduated rays above, the uppermost supporting a five-pointed red enamel star, golden ears of corn around the lower edges, a gilt-edged red enamel ribbon at the base inscribed in gilt letters ‘СССР’ (= SSSR for the Sojus Sowjetskich Sozialistitscheskich Respublik = the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics); the reverse concave, plain with maker’s mark ‘МОНЕТНЬІЙ ДВОР’ (for the Monetny Dvor = Leningrad Mint) and numbered ‘56705’; on original ribbon and pentagonal hanger mounted for wear. Very good condition and a failry low number issue.

The Order was established in three classes on 18 January 1974 to be awarded for accomplishments of production or innovation in industry, manufacturing, transport, construction and the like. It was discontinued with the break-up of the U.S.S.R. and the end of Communist rule in 1991. A very good example.
