Offered is an original Cross of Merit of the Republic of Austria, silver class, in case of issue.

45mm wide silver washed metal Maltese cross on elaborate suspension in the form of an Austrian eagle bearing on its breast the arms of the Austrian Republic, encircled by the arms of the Austrian provinces; the face with hatched arms and a Greek cross imposed; the reverse plain; on original triangular ribbon mounted for wear, the cross housed in its presentation award case.

The Order of Merit was instituted on 2 April 1952 and is Austria’s premier military and civilian award; it may also be awarded to non-Austrian citizens. An excellent example in superb condition.
