Offered is an Afghanistan Medal (1878 – 80), 1 clasp PEIWAR KOTAL, period engraved 2202 PTE J WOOD 2/8TH REGT Comes with copies Chelsea Pensioner records. Private James Wood, enlisted with the 2nd Battalion 8th Foot, (The Kings) on the 20/9/1872. The Battalion at the time was stationed in Malta until 1877 when it was posted to India. On the outbreak of the 2nd Afghan war 1878 – 80, the Battalion was part of the Kurram Field Force and fought at the battle of Peiwar Kotal, November 1878. He discharged on the 15/2/1886.
