Offered is an Egypt and Sudan Medal (1882), with 3 clasps EL-TEB-TAMAAI, THE NILE 1884- 85, KIRBEKAN, period engraved 6420. DRIV: H. SUNDERLAND. J/3.BDE R.A. Comes with copy service records, 1881 & 1911 census.
Henry Sunderland was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire. The 1881 census records him as a ‘soldier’ driver living in the Barracks, Soldiers Quarters in Newcastle.
On 12/4/1900 he enlisted into the Royal Reserve of Artillery at Halifax, Yorkshire, a boilermaker by trade he stated on his attestation form he had previously served with the Royal Artillery (Time expired). He was posted to the 102nd Battery for home service and discharged on termination of his short service contract 11/4/1901. The 1911 census records him still as a boilermaker and residing in Halifax. He died in March 1925 in Halifax.
