For sale is an original Egypt campaign Khedive’s Medal 1882, impressed to reverse 1 Bks 2281 W B. Medal comes with extensive paperwork relating to the recipient. William Bennett was born at Thatcham, Berkshire in April 1862 and enlisted from the Royal Berkshire Militia at Newbury on 18 October 1880. Posted to Gibraltar in March 1882 he was stationed at Malta by July and finally joined the British forces in Egypt on 23 July. Here the Battalion served as part of General Sir Evelyn Wood’s Brigade at Kafr-ed-Daur, seeing sporadic fighting throughout August. Returning to Britain on 25 August Bennett remained there...

For sale is an original Egypt campaign Khedive's Medal 1882, impressed to reverse 1 Bks 2281 W B. Medal comes with extensive paperwork relating to the recipient.

William Bennett was born at Thatcham, Berkshire in April 1862 and enlisted from the Royal Berkshire Militia at Newbury on 18 October 1880. Posted to Gibraltar in March 1882 he was stationed at Malta by July and finally joined the British forces in Egypt on 23 July. Here the Battalion served as part of General Sir Evelyn Wood's Brigade at Kafr-ed-Daur, seeing sporadic fighting throughout August.

Returning to Britain on 25 August Bennett remained there until January 1883 when he returned to Egypt as part of a 'Draft from Depot'. This posting did not last long however and by March he was ordered to Gibraltar where he served a year before being posted to the 2nd Battalion at Netley. Joining the Army Reserve on 17 October 1886, he was noted as a 'Rifle Master' and his home as 5 Albeny Street, Regents Park, London. Bennett was finally discharged on 17 October 1892; sold together with sold together with copied research comprising census data, service papers and medal roll.
