Pte Tait was posted to the 2nd Battalion 4/12/1893.

In 1893, the 2nd Battalion had just moved from Rawalpindi to Ferozepore. In March 1895 the Battalion was part of the 3rd Brigade which was sent to the relief of the besieged British Garrison at Chitral.

In 1897 the 1st and 2nd Battalion exchanged duties as the home and foreign service Battalions. Pte Tait was sent back to the 1st Battalion 23/1/1897 at Malta.

Due to the ongoing tensions on Crete an international force from Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Austria was sent to the island as a peacekeeping force. Pte Tait served there from 22/3/1897 – 3/8/97 returning to Malta.
