Offered is a rare New South Wales Militia Officer’s service sword & scabbard.
The 1822 pattern sword features gilded brass fittings overall, with a stepped pommel, ornamental back strap, with fish skin grip with full wire wrap. The 2 branch guard features the N.S.W. Militia colonial badge to hilt.
The 92cm long blade is retail marked to D. Jones & Co. of Sydney & proof star to forte, with both sides of the blade showing acid etched design of foliate patters & N.S.W. Militia logo and royal cypher crown for Queen Victoria. Both sides of the blade have the exact matching design. Very little wear, if any, just good patina overall. Very good condition twin ringed metal type, with large style drag. No dents, just light wear. Overall an excellent condition Pre-Federation officer’s sword, that would most likely have been one taken on service during the Boer War.
