Sergeant Mechanic Clifford Naylor was born in Clackheaton, Yorkshire (1897). A fitter by trade he enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps on 7/10/1915 as a fitter. He served in Egypt 10/1/1917 – 15/2/1919, and was probably sent to the 113th Squadron R.F.C. when it was formed.
He was promoted to Sergeant 1/10/1917, a rather quick promotion considering he had joined only 2 years previously.
No. 113 Squadron was formed on 1/8/1917 at Ismailia as a corps reconnaissance unit. In September it began tactical reconnaissance and artillery spotting missions in Palestine flying RE8's against the Turkish 7th and 8th Armies where it remained until the end of the war. He was posted to R.D. Egypt 15/2/1919. He continued to serve post war with the last notation on his service papers 9/4/1921 showing ‘re-mustered as Sergeant Fitter.
