Offered is a very good condition 1882 Pattern French Army Officer's sword (épée d'Officier d'infanterie Mle 1882), which was presented during WW1 by the French Government to the Roumanian Government in 1915.
The sword features a vertically ribbed, wire wrapped composite grip, with fitted 3 branch plain guard & plain back strapped pommel.
The thin straight thrusting double edged blade measures 85 cm long and features the classic 'blood groove' running along both sides of the blade, being the nickel variety, showing very little wear, being engraved: 'ON BEHALF OF THE ROUMANIAN INFANTRY IN MEMORY OF THE COMMON SACRIFICE 1914-1918'. The hilt is correctly engraved & stamped, showing manufacturer: Klingen, France.
The metal service scabbard is in good, toned condition. The scabbard is engraved 'PRESENTED BY THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT AUGUST - 1915'. Scabbard retains the single floating suspension ring and small style drag. Overall length: 101 cm.
Obviously an early war country to country presentation sword, of which would be a one of a kind piece.
