RARE WW1 CHAPMAN MADE 1917* BRITISH 303 RIFLE 1907 BAYONET SCABBARD SWORD ARMY

Description

Offered is an original & rare 1917 dated Chapman made First World War 1907 pattern bayonet with scabbard.

Bayonet & scabbard features steel fittings, with pommel & working release button, lightly used condition wooden grips and metal guard, numbered 5715 & F to tang. The 43 cm long steel blade shows the ‘blood groove’ to the centre of each side of the blade and stamped for Chapman (J A Chapman, Sheffield), being dated April, 1917. The blades factory sharpened edge with a very good bright finish to surface. Standard leather & metal WW2 Australian (Mangrovite 42 stamped) scabbard, with round metal frog button, with very good condition leather body, with all metal part black finished. The scabbard retains a jungle green web frog, with original web belt fixing hooks. Overall length: 58cm long. A good used example of a WW1 bayonet, as used with the classic Short Magazine Lee–Enfield No. 1 Mk. III service rifle.

A good used example of a scarce maker produced bayonet with only 300,000 J. A. Chapman made bayonets, out of a total of approximately 5 million made during WW1.
