Description

1871 Mauser Gewehr sword bayonet scabbard by Alex Coppel, with leather scabbard.

Bayonet features brass and steel fittings overall, with solid brass birds head pommel with working external release button,  opposing steel metal guard, with polished regimental details & muzzle ring. The 46.5 cm long steel blade shows some field sharpening, cleaned, with some pitting to lower blade. Ricasso maker stamped for Alex Coppel, Solingen, being issue dated 1872 to spine. Standard metal and leather scabbard in very good original shape, with modern black leather belt frog. The blade fits very nicely into the scabbard. Overall length: 61cm.

Sword bayonet for use with the 11 mm. Mauser Gewehr 71. This bayonet was also used extensively with the 8 mm. Gewehr 88 (Commission Rifle).
