Offered is an orignial WW1 era German 98/05 Mauser ‘Butcher’ bayonet & scabbard. Bayonet features steel fittings overall, with waffen stamps to birds head pommel with working external release button, screw in wooden grips and metal guard & partial muzzle ring. The 36.8 cm long swollen steel blade shows only very light sharpening to blade edge, retaining a very good spear point, with blade being in generally very good condition overall. Ricasso maker stamped for C.G. Haenel of Suhl, with Prussian issue stamp and date for 1917 issue. Standard metal scabbard with K&R stamp to throat, showing age patina and...

Standard metal scabbard with K&R stamp to throat, showing age patina and a couple of minor service dents. Blade fits very nicely into the scabbard. Overall length: 52cm.

The bayonet was designed for use with the 7.92 mm Gewehr 98 bolt action Mauser Rifle, being one of the main service rifles of the German Army pre and post WW1.
